HMI design is the fastest way to cut traffic co2 emissions

Today CO2 neutrality is every car manufacturer’s first priority. The obvious solution is changing the machine itself. But this is costly and time consuming.

What if by changing the HMI, you could change the behavior of human beings? This does not change the physical car itself, but would enable quick and relatively inexpensive changes in behavioral patterns.

How could we change the user interface and cockpit so they would genuinely support and reward a more eco friendly driving style?

Discussing this topic are Mr. Joonas Vartola with in-depth insight and experience from the automotive industry and UX design ao. from Tesla & Mazda and Mr. Kivi Sotamaa with a vast background in experience design in service businesses on a global scale.

Wrap up and key takeaways

What you’ll learn

  1. What kind of examples can you already find in cars today, and what are their cons? For instance, the displays turn green when driving in an eco-friendly way.
  2. What can we learn from examples outside the automotive industry?
  3. What limitations does the car interior pose?
  4. What kind of possibilities does the new HMI technology offer, for instance, physical surfaces with integrated touch functionalities?
  5. Can we produce a 3 step guide on how to get started?
  6. Can we design the HMI so it changes the way of driving for good? Or is this all just wasted time?
