Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) All Member Meeting was held in Novi (Detroit area), USA from September 25-26, 2024. We were thrilled to be there as a Silver Sponsor of the event.
The first day kicked off with a keynote from Steve Crumb, COVESA’s Executive Director, followed by a series of engaging sessions. Notably, several presentations delved into the Vehicle Signal Specification (VSS), a project we’re deeply involved in at Siili Auto.
VSS is a key initiative aimed at standardizing how vehicle data is defined and communicated. It provides a common data model that describes various signals generated by a vehicle, allowing different stakeholders to work with a unified structure. We’re proud to have recently contributed to the open-source codebase (check out the full story here.)
COVESA’s initiatives extend far beyond the automotive sector. In an insightful panel discussion titled „Bringing Value to Adjacent Industries through Vehicle Data,” John Ellis, Ted Guild, and Shankar Yoganathan explored how industries such as commercial fleets, off-road vehicles, and insurance can derive significant value from vehicle data. The session highlighted the wide-reaching potential of connected vehicle data to drive innovation and efficiency across a range of sectors.
The second day of the event was packed with insightful presentations and engaging discussion panels. The Vehicle Signal Specification (VSS), a project in which we are heavily involved, remained a key topic of discussion throughout the day.
One of the standout sessions for us was the panel titled “Next Level Vehicle Experiences – New Innovations,” led by Michael Blicher, Dan Daogaru, and Peter Winston. The panel explored Augmented Reality and immersive experiences, both of which have been major focal points in the R&D aspect of our work. In line with these themes, we’ve developed the acclaimed Mixed Reality Cockpit—an innovative simulator that allows product development teams to quickly prototype and test holistic digital experiences before physical seating bucks or test vehicles are created. Like the first day, there was ample opportunity for insights from other industries. A panel featuring Ansgar Gerlicher, Debbie Moore, Cindy Warner, and Jennifer Dukarski explored the legal aspects of data collection and consent.
Another engaging session was led by Arianne Walker, who discussed the evolving applications of large language models (LLMs). She explored how these models can drive new services, enhance functionality, enable personalization, and transform interactions.
The meeting clearly demonstrated that COVESA is at the forefront of automotive innovation, and we’re looking forward to our continued collaboration as an alliance member.
